Obituary of George H. Burnett

George Hubbard Burnett, Jr., 87, of East Greenbush, New York and Deltona, Florida passed away peacefully on November 2, 2017 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany after a brief illness. Born in Warren, Ohio on February 26, 1930, he was the son of the late George Sr. and Jennie Burnett. He grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, graduated from Kent State University and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. George was an Analyst at Corning Glass Works and retired after 25 years. He married Gail K. Dodds and lived in Painted Post, New York where they raised their family, were active members of the Corning First United Methodist Church, and made many lifelong friends. He enjoyed sailing his Sunfish on Keuka Lake. After retiring, they moved to Florida where he enjoyed many bicycle trips with his son, Bob. Bicycling was a large part of George's life and he continued to ride his entire life, switching to an exercise bike the last few years. He also contributed more than 9000 volunteer hours over 25 years with the Citizen Observer Program (C.O.P) of the Volusia County Sheriff's office. Three years ago, George moved to East Greenbush to be closer to his daughter and son-in-law. He attended the United Methodist Church and quickly made new friends. He will be remembered for many things including his kindness, love of family, good values and sense of humor. He was talented at doing woodworking, calligraphy and puzzles. George was predeceased by his wife, Gail (Dodds) Burnett; son, Robert Allyn Burnett; sister, Nancy J. Martin; and brother, Thomas A. Burnett. He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Burnett Frament and her husband, Patrick; and two grandsons, Gregory Frament of Marietta, Georgia and Scott Frament (Brittany) of East Greenbush; and many relatives in Ohio. A celebration of George's life will be on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 6 Gilligan Road, East Greenbush. An additional celebration will be scheduled in the spring in Corning. The family would like to thank everyone at St. Peter's I.C.U. and Hospice Inn for their care and compassion.
