Obituary of Bruce E. Hedden

Geraldine W. Hedden passed away on December 28, 2017 on her 90th birthday after a short illness. Bruce E. Hedden passed away 11 days later January 8, 2018. They would have been married for 65 years on April 11. Gerry was born on December 28, 1927 in Rensselaer to the late Charles and Pearl Sager. She lived all her life in Rensselaer and attended Van Rensselaer School and Becker Junior College. She worked as a secretary for the Franciscan Mission House in Rensselaer and for Kelly Services. She was predeceased by her older sister, Jean Johnson. Her younger sister, Eleanor Williams, passed away on January 11, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas. Gerry was an active member of the Bloomingrove Reformed Church. Bruce E. Hedden was born in Kingston, PA to the late Donald and Rose Hedden. He was predeceased by his brother Donald Jack Hedden. Bruce also attended Van Rensselaer School and joined the Navy after graduation. He served in the Pacific during WWII and the Korean War. He was a sheet metal worker and life long member of Sheet Metal Workers Local Union #83. He was also a 65 year member of Van Rensselaer Lodge No.87 of the Masons. He was a life member of Sampson WWII Navy Veterans. After retiring in 1989, Bruce and Gerry traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada. Summers were spent at their camp in Schroon Lake that they built together. They were happiest when they were busy – gardening, model making. baking, tinkering in the shed, quilting. With his beard and rosy cheeks, Bruce played Santa for many years at the East Greenbush Elks and the Bloomingrove nursery school. Bruce and Gerry are survived by their children: David (Carrie Woodcock) Hedden of San Diego, Judy (Ron) Zielinski of Guilderland and Robert Hedden of Rochester. They are also survived by 5 grandsons: Ryan (Carolyn-fiancé) and Adam Zielinski, Adrian and Byron Hedden, Andrew (Sarah-fiance) Hedden. And one great grandson, Dean Robert Hedden. Also by several loving nieces and nephews and their families.
