Obituary of Edward J. Mahoney

Edward J. Mahoney, Jr. 86 of East Greenbush died Thursday, January 18, 2018 surrounded by his family after a brief illness at Albany Medical Center. Edward was born in Brooklyn the son of the late Edward J. and Anna Mahoney. Ed was an All Long Island wrestler at W.C. Mepham High school earning a scholarship to Lehigh College where he earned his degree in Finance in 1953. Ed then served proudly as a pilot in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict on the Bonhomme Richard. He was a Programmer for IBM Poughkeepsie for 38 years before retiring. Predeceased by his son, Michael Mahoney, and a sister, Eleanor Waugh. Edward is survived by his wife: Teresa (Breslin) Mahoney; three daughters: Noreen (Richard) Coughlin, Patricia (Jeffrey) Kolakowski and Mary Cray; two sisters: Viola Young and Mary Ann Walker, and 2 brothers: James and John Quiney. Proud grandfather of Liam, Eamonn, Niall, Dermot, Griffin, Ronan, Sinead Coughlin, Bridget, Fiona, and Sean Cray. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral 10:00 from the Rockefeller funeral home 165 Columbia Tpk Rensselaer, and then at 10:30 am at Holy Spirit Church 667 Columbia Tpk., East Greenbush, NY. Friends are invited to attend his calling hours Sunday evening 4-7 at the funeral home.
