Obituary of Mary A. Rooney

Albany Mary A. (Gerasia) Rooney, 85, of Albany passed away on Wednesday at St Peter's Nursing and Rehab center. Born in Albany on March 26, 1932 to the late Lena (Restifo) Sangiorgi and stepfather Benny Sangiorgi. A lifetime resident of Albany, she was educated at St. Johns class of 1950. Mary was a homemaker and stay at home mom to her 7 children. Later Mary worked as a secretary at St. Catherine of Siena for 8 years and retired in 1988. Mary will always be remembered for her warm personality and kind heart. She was the beloved wife of the late Hugh P. Rooney whom she married on May 16, 1953. They had been married for 60 years. Together they raised 7 children. Patrick (Bonnie) Rooney, Lea (Steve) Miller, Mary Beth (John) Barry, Mike (Heather) Rooney, Paul (Donna) Rooney, Michel (Mickey) Connell and the late The late John "Jay" Rooney; 16 grandchildren- Jackie Robke, Kevin Barry, Maryann Spencer, Matthew and Michael Rooney, Casey DiGuiseppe, Brett and Cody Miller, Lena , RJ and Melissa Berghela, Bridget, Kelly, Shannon, Courtney and Alexis Rooney, also survived by 17 great-grandchildren and 2 brothers Angelo "Joe". (Myong Ja) Sangiorgi, and Benny (Lorraine) Sangiorgi.
