Obituary of Robert M. Comly
Robert M. Comly, 79, of Castleton, NY died unexpectedly Monday, March 26, 2018 at home. Robert was born in Brooklyn, NY and grew up in Bayside, NY. He studied Aeronautical Engineering at MIT, and then worked initially for Rosenblatt Ship Design in Manhattan. He spent most of his career as a civilian engineer and manager for the US Naval Sea Systems Command working on a variety of Navy combat and provisioning ships, winning several awards. He retired in 1999 and moved in 2001 to his current home. Throughout his life he was a kind, thoughtful and supportive son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and granduncle.
Robert is survived by his sister Carol Orvis of Rensselaer, NY, brother, James B. Comly (Lucy T. Comly) of Niskayuna, NY, nieces Elizabeth Shuster (Jeff Shuster), and Jennifer Cline, nephews Kenneth Orvis (Christine Orvis), and Andy Comly (Carol Mann), grand nieces Alessandra Shuster, Kaila Streichert, Karen Jordan, and Julia Comly-Green (Adam Comly-Green), and grand nephews Erik Shuster, Nicholas Comly, Jakob Orvis, and William Orvis
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral at 6:00 pm on Friday from Wm. J. Rockefeller Funeral Home, Inc. 165 Columbia Turnpike, Rensselaer, NY with Edward Whited officiating. Friends may call in the funeral home on Friday from 4-6.
His ashes will be buried at the Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands, NY, at a later date.
